Family Group Conference pioneers Dr.Gale Burford, professor and Director of the State Child Welfare Training Partnership at the University of Vermont Department of Social Work and Dr.Joan Pennell, principal investigator for North Carolina State University and North Carolina Division of Social Services (United States) training program on family group conferencing, provide a wealth of articles, books, evaluations, training materials including videos, to assist practitioners, program directors and policy makers to develop and implement FGC initiatives.

This MANUAL FOR COORDINATORS AND COMMUNITIES: THE ORGANIZATION AND PRACTICE OF FAMILY GROUP DECISION MAKING, is a detailed training guide for groups who wish to develop a FGC program and for FGC coordinators. It was developed by Gale Burford, Joan Pennell and Susan MacLeod in August 1995 based on the 'Family Decision-Making Project' in Newfoundland. The guide also includes sample plans from conferences.

Family Group Decision Making: Communities Stopping Family Violence - Questions and Answers, A National Clearinghouse on Family Violence publication, Public Health Canada. Includes detailed information about the FGC process drawn largely from the Family Group Decision-Making Project in Newfoundland Labrador; also addresses how to keep family members safe during and after the FGC. Several studies are cited and contact information is given for FGC programs across Canada.
